# Emergency electrician in Colchester — Lighting Electrical

> Out-of-hours emergency electrician for power loss, repeated tripping, burning smells and unsafe electrics. See the published hourly rate.

Out-of-hours attendance for power loss, tripping circuits, burning smells and unsafe electrics.

## What an emergency call-out costs

Out-of-hours attendance is charged at the published hourly rate from arrival. The aim of the first visit is to make the installation safe and restore what can be restored safely.
- Emergency electrician (out of hours): £90/hr
- There is no separate call-out charge on top of the hourly rate.
- Parts are charged in addition and confirmed with you before fitting.
- Work that cannot be completed safely at night is quoted and booked in daylight.
- If the fault turns out to sit with the supplier's equipment, you are told and pointed to the network operator, who attends free.

## What counts as an emergency

Some faults genuinely cannot wait until morning. Others are safer left isolated overnight, and you are told honestly which is which.
- **Burning smell or scorching:** Turn the circuit off and call. This is the one that should never wait.
- **Total loss of power:** Check whether neighbours are affected first, which usually points to the network rather than your installation.
- **A circuit that keeps tripping:** Repeated tripping is the protection doing its job. Leave it off and get it looked at.
- **Water reaching electrics:** A leak into a fitting, board or socket needs isolating immediately.

## What the visit covers

The first visit is about making the installation safe and finding the cause.

### Included in the call-out
- Attendance out of hours at the published hourly rate
- Making the installation safe
- Tracing the fault as far as is safe to do at the time
- Restoring supply to circuits that are safe to re-energise
- A written account of what was found and what remains

### Not included automatically
- Full repairs that need parts not carried on the van
- Faults on the supplier's cutout, meter or network cable
- Appliance repair, as distinct from the circuit feeding it
- Making good after any access work

## How an emergency visit works

The order never changes: make it safe, then find out why.
1. **Tell us what is happening:** What failed, when, whether anything smells hot and whether neighbours are affected.
2. **Make safe on arrival:** Anything dangerous is isolated before diagnosis starts.
3. **Find the fault:** Testing narrows it to a circuit, an accessory or an appliance.
4. **Restore what is safe:** Healthy circuits go back on. Anything unsafe stays off and is explained.

## What you are left with

The point of the visit is a safe installation and a clear picture, not a guess.
- **A safe installation:** Nothing dangerous is left energised.
- **Power back where possible:** Circuits that test healthy are restored the same visit.
- **A written next step:** Any remaining work is described and priced rather than started without agreement.

## Emergency electrician questions

Clear answers before you call.

### Everything is off, is that my problem or the network's?

If neighbours have lost power too, it is the network operator and they attend free. If it is only you, check the main switch and call.

### My circuit keeps tripping, can I just keep resetting it?

No. Repeated tripping means protection is operating on a real fault. Leave it off and get it investigated.

### Will it be fixed in one visit?

Making safe usually is. A full repair depends on parts and on whether the work is safe to complete at night.

### Do you charge a call-out fee as well?

No. Out-of-hours time is charged at the published hourly rate from arrival.

### There is a burning smell but everything still works. Wait until morning?

No. Switch that circuit off at the board and call. A burning smell is the one symptom that should never be left.

### Do you cover landlords and businesses?

Yes, the same out-of-hours arrangement applies.
