Lighting Electrical carries out emergency lighting tests for workplaces, shops and landlord buildings in Colchester and the surrounding Essex towns. Emergency lighting is the lamps and exit signs that stay on when the mains fail, and the visit ends with the certificate.

## Emergency lighting test & certificate prices

An emergency lighting test and certificate from £150 is the starting price for a small premises with a modest set of fittings. Bigger buildings, extra floors and extra luminaires sit above that starting figure.
- Emergency lighting test & certificate: from £150
- A small shop or office with few emergency fittings sits at the £150 starting price.
- More floors, more luminaires or a longer battery duration test raise the visit above that figure.
- Bronze, Silver and Gold plans take 5, 10 or 15 percent off certificates.

## Who needs an emergency lighting test

Workplaces, shops and landlord buildings with lamps that must stay on in a power cut need this test.
- **Offices and shops:** Staff and customers still need to see the way out if the mains drop during trading hours.
- **Landlord buildings with shared halls:** Flats and houses in multiple occupation with lit stairs and landings need the fittings checked and certified.
- **Workshops and plant rooms:** Large floor plates still need exit signs and emergency luminaires checked while the mains are isolated.
- **After new emergency fittings go in:** New lamps and exit signs need a test so the certificate matches the fittings on the walls.

## What is covered

The visit covers the emergency lighting on the premises you book, from the fittings through to the certificate.

### Included
- Visual check of emergency luminaires, exit signs and charge indicators
- Function test that isolates the mains feeding the emergency lighting
- Battery duration test where the system needs one
- Written certificate with a pass or fail for each fitting
- A note of any lamp, battery or luminaire that did not last

### Not included
- Replacement batteries, lamps or complete emergency luminaires
- Design or first install of a new emergency lighting system

## What happens on the day

You get a walk round, a live test of the emergency lamps, and the certificate before we leave.
1. **Find the fittings and the board:** We meet you on site, walk the emergency lamps and exit signs, and find the board that feeds them.
2. **Isolate the mains and watch the lamps:** We cut the supply to the emergency lighting, watch each luminaire and exit sign, and record how long the batteries last.
3. **Restore power and leave the certificate:** We restore the supply, talk through any failed fittings, and leave the emergency lighting certificate with you.

## What you get after the test

You keep a certificate for the emergency lighting and a clear note of any fitting that failed.
- **Certificate for the emergency lighting:** The paper records each luminaire and exit sign, with a pass or fail against it.
- **Failed fittings named:** Any lamp, battery or luminaire that did not last is written down so a repair can be priced.
- **The building back in use:** The mains are restored before we leave, so the premises can open or stay open.

## Emergency lighting test & certificate questions

These are the questions people ask before booking an emergency lighting test with Lighting Electrical.

### How much does an emergency lighting test cost?

An emergency lighting test and certificate starts from £150. A small premises with few fittings sits at that starting figure. Extra floors and extra luminaires raise the price from there.

### Do the lights go off during the test?

The test isolates the mains to the emergency lighting so we can see which fittings stay on. Ordinary sockets and other circuits stay live unless a lamp shares that lighting circuit. We restore the supply before we leave.

### Is this the same as a fire alarm test?

No. Emergency lighting is the lamps and exit signs that stay on when the power fails. Fire alarm testing is a different visit with its own certificate, and you can book both.

### Do I need this for a house?

Most houses do not have emergency lighting, so this visit is for workplaces, shops and landlord buildings with escape lighting. Ordinary house lights are a different job. An EICR from £150 checks the safety of the fixed wiring instead.

### What if a light fails the test?

The certificate records the failed fitting and a replacement battery, lamp or luminaire can be priced on the day. The £150 starting price covers the test and the certificate, not the parts. The repair can wait for a later visit if you prefer.
