Lighting Electrical traces electrical faults in homes and commercial premises around Colchester and nearby Essex towns. We find the cause, explain the repair, then fix the circuit, fuse board, lighting or appliance that has failed.
“Ten years on Colchester housing stock and I have seen most of it: terraces where the lighting circuit has been extended once too often, boards fitted before RCDs were standard, new builds with sockets nowhere near the kitchen. I check the earthing, the bonding and whether the supply will carry another load before I price anything, because the age of a house settles nothing on its own.”
You can check this list against the job before we start. The hourly rate pays for finding the cause and putting that circuit right.
We answer the phone at any time. Booked visits take place in our opening hours, and you deal with us from the quote through to the finish.
We walk the property with you, note when the fault started, and look at the fuse board, the dead circuit and any appliance you have already unplugged.
We isolate the circuit, measure at the board and at points along the run, and name the failed joint, accessory, cable or device before we replace anything.
Once you accept the hourly repair we fix that finding, restore the circuit, and issue a minor works certificate when the work needs one.
Fault finding and repair starts at £75 an hour. That hour covers testing on site, a spoken diagnosis, and the first part of the repair once you accept the work.
You are left with a named cause, a working circuit, and paperwork only when the repair needs it.
Electrical Safety First explains common household electrical questions in plain language for people waiting on a repair.
The cause is named before parts are bought. You hear the hourly rate up front, and any lasting repair is priced on its own once the fault is known.

No. We test first and name the failed joint, accessory, cable or device. Replacement starts after you accept that hourly repair.

Often yes. Intermittent trips, flickers and warm fittings still leave traces at the board or along the circuit. If the fault will not show on the day we tell you what we found and what still needs watching.
You get a minor works certificate when the repair needs one, from £95. An EICR is a separate safety report from £150 if you need a full inspection as well.
Yes. We cover Colchester plus Witham, Maldon, Wivenhoe, Tiptree, Kelvedon, West Mersea, Stanway, Brightlingsea, Coggeshall, Marks Tey, Dedham, Rowhedge, Great Horkesley, Heybridge and Silver End.
Say what has stopped working. We attend, name the cause, then price any lasting repair on its own at the hourly rate.
