Valandi commissioning an industrial forklift battery charger in a warehouse by Lighting Electrical

Forklift charger installation in Colchester

Lighting Electrical installs forklift chargers for warehouses and yards in Colchester and nearby Essex towns. Lighting Electrical remains responsible for the work, so you deal with Lighting Electrical from the first look at the bay through to testing.

Ten years on Colchester housing stock and I have seen most of it: terraces where the lighting circuit has been extended once too often, boards fitted before RCDs were standard, new builds with sockets nowhere near the kitchen. I check the earthing, the bonding and whether the supply will carry another load before I price anything, because the age of a house settles nothing on its own.

Who books a forklift charger

  • Warehouse managers, yard owners and plant hire firms around Colchester book this when a new truck arrives or an old charger fails. We cover Witham, Maldon, Stanway, Tiptree and the other Essex towns on the list.
  • You have taken delivery of a truck and the old petrol bay is no longer enough. We check the supply, fit the charger and leave the bay ready for overnight charging.
  • The existing unit trips, runs hot or will not finish a charge. We find the fault first, then replace the charger if the circuit is still sound.
  • You need another charging point without shutting the warehouse. We plan the run so trucks can still move while the new bay goes in.

What the installation covers

The list below is what a typical forklift charger job covers. Anything outside it is priced after the visit.

Included when agreed

  • A look at the charging bay, isolator and incoming supply before we order parts
  • Fitting the charger, isolator and any short final circuit the bay needs
  • Testing the install and issuing the certificate for the work done
  • Labelling the isolator so staff can switch the bay off
  • A written price before the fitting date

Not included automatically

  • Buying the charger itself if you have not already ordered it
  • Concrete, pits or floor works for the bay
  • Servicing or repairing the forklift truck

What happens on the day

We arrive at the warehouse, isolate the bay and finish with a certificate. You deal with us from start to finish.

  1. 01

    Arrival and isolation

We sign in, find the charging bay and isolate the circuit so trucks and staff can keep using the rest of the floor.

  2. 02

    Fitting the charger

We mount the unit, terminate the tails and set the isolator. Cable is run only as far as the quote described.

  3. 03

    Testing and certificate

We test the circuit, show you the isolator and leave the certificate for the install.

Forklift charger installation price

Forklift charger installation starts from £700 where the bay and supply are already suitable for the unit. Longer cable runs, a new circuit or a larger incoming supply are priced after we see the site.

  • The £700 starting price is for fitting a charger on an existing suitable circuit, not a new substation or a full warehouse rewire.
  • We quote in writing before we book the work. Call outs at any hour are charged separately as emergency electrician work from £90 per hour.
  • NAPIT certification is included when the install needs a certificate.

What you get

You are left with a working charging bay and paperwork for the electrical work. Fleet movement on the rest of the floor is not part of the electrical job.

Electrical installation and testing
The charger is on a tested circuit with an isolator staff can reach. The certificate records the work we carried out.
Fleet and warehouse operations remain separate
We isolate only the bay we are working on. Forklifts on other aisles can keep moving while the charger goes in.

Official workplace charging guidance

Two HSE notes that sit beside a forklift charging bay. They are about trucks and electricity at work, not about Lighting Electrical.

Why customers choose Lighting Electrical

A charging bay is priced after it has been looked at, never over the phone, and the certificate follows the test. NAPIT registration covers that paperwork.
