House rewiring in Maldon planned around solid walls, changing floor levels and retained finishes, with full or partial work based on the circuits that need replacement.
“Ten years on Colchester housing stock and I have seen most of it: terraces where the lighting circuit has been extended once too often, boards fitted before RCDs were standard, new builds with sockets nowhere near the kitchen. I check the earthing, the bonding and whether the supply will carry another load before I price anything, because the age of a house settles nothing on its own.”
House rewiring starts from £2,400. That starting price buys a written quote for a typical house, the labour to run new circuits, a new consumer unit, and the certificate at the end. Larger High Street houses on several floors, flats that share an intake, extra outside circuits down a long garden, or a board that has to move will sit above that figure once we have seen the property.
A Maldon rewire is booked in opening hours. We answer the phone any time, then we turn up on the day we set and stay on the job until the certificate is written.
We arrive, walk the house with you, and confirm which rooms we are opening first. On High Street and Market Hill we isolate at the shared cupboard only when the keyholder is present. We protect floors, then we start in the room that lets us get cables through with the least extra opening.
We pull new lighting and socket circuits room by room, fit the new consumer unit, and add the cooker, shower, extractor and outside points we quoted. If the board needs moving because an old extension left it in a bad spot, that happens while the walls are already open. Dust and debris go as we go, not in a pile at the end.
When every circuit is in, we test the installation, fit the smoke and heat alarms if they are part of the job, and write the certificate. You get a walk through of the new board, the labels, and how to reset a trip. We do not leave until you have that paperwork in your hand.
Alongside a full rewire we fit fuse boards from £450, carry out EICRs from £150, find faults from £75 per hour, install lighting from £65 per downlight, fit 7.4kW EV chargers from £750, add sockets from £85, and attend out of hours emergencies from £90 per hour.
A Maldon rewire runs from the first look at the board to the final test with Lighting Electrical in the house. The figure lands before a wall is opened. Calls are taken at any hour and booked work runs in opening hours.

Rewires from Maldon also take us to Heybridge across the bridge, to Tiptree and Kelvedon on the way to the A12, and to Wivenhoe and Rowhedge on the far side of Colchester.
These are the questions we are asked most on High Street, Fambridge Road and the roads down to The Hythe.
House rewiring starts from £2,400. That is a starting price for a typical house. A High Street house on several floors with no continuous loft, a flat that shares an intake, or a long garden that needs its own outside circuit will cost more once we have walked the property.

If the cable in the walls is old, mixed, or damaged, a new consumer unit from £450 will not fix it. We look at the wiring first. If the circuits are sound we can replace the board on its own. If they are not, we quote the rewire from £2,400 and we do not pretend a new board will cover it.

Yes, if someone with a key to the shared intake cupboard can be there when we isolate. Market Hill and High Street flats usually share that cupboard. Without the key we cannot make the supply safe, so we will not start.
If an old extension has left the board in an awkward cupboard, we can move it while the wiring is open. That is common on Fambridge Road, Spital Road and Wantz Road. The cost sits in the written quote after we have seen where the new board can go.
Yes. Gardens that drop away behind houses on Mundon Road and Limebrook Way need a dedicated outside circuit, not a spur from an indoor socket. We include that in the rewire if you want outlets at the shed, path lights, or a supply further down the plot.
Yes. We test the installation and leave the certificate with you. A minor works certificate starts from £95 when the job is smaller than a full rewire. The full rewire certificate is part of the job from £2,400.
We answer the phone any time. Booked rewires run in opening hours. Gold plan customers get same day priority booking and two emergency call outs a year. Silver is next day priority. Bronze, Silver and Gold all include a free safety certificate once a year, with Gold covering that three times a year, plus labour and certificate discounts of 5 percent, 10 percent or 15 percent.
