An Electrical Installation Condition Report is a formal assessment of the fixed wiring, switches, sockets, and distribution boards in a property. It identifies potential shock risks, fire hazards, or degraded wiring that requires repair to keep occupants safe.
How long will the electrical testing take?
A straightforward domestic installation with a single consumer unit generally takes a few hours to inspect and test. Properties with multiple boards, high numbers of circuits, or commercial layouts require additional time.
Will the electricity need to be turned off during the visit?
Yes. Dead testing requires parts of the installation, and occasionally the whole property, to be isolated from the mains supply. Power is restored section by section as tests are completed.
What do the observation codes C1, C2, and C3 indicate?
Code C1 signifies danger present requiring immediate isolation to remove risk. Code C2 denotes a potentially dangerous issue that requires urgent remedial repair. Code C3 points out a recommendation for improvement that does not constitute a failure.
What makes an electrical report unsatisfactory?
