Rental properties require an electrical installation condition report at least every five years or at each change of tenancy. For owner-occupied domestic homes, an inspection is recommended every ten years, or sooner if the property has older wiring, recent alterations or unexplained tripping.
What is involved in replacing a consumer unit?
A replacement involves disconnecting existing circuits, removing the old fuse box, and installing an enclosure fitted with RCDs and circuit breakers. Each circuit is tested before and after energisation to check earthing, polarity and insulation resistance, followed by issuing a completion certificate.
Can an EV charger be fitted to an older fuse board?
A 7.4kW car charger requires a dedicated circuit. If your existing consumer unit has no spare ways, or lacks adequate RCD protection and load capacity, we can either install a small separate distribution board next to the meter or upgrade the main consumer unit.
What documentation do I receive once electrical work is finished?
Depending on the work completed, you receive an Electrical Installation Certificate, a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate, or an EICR. For notifiable domestic work, we submit the installation details through NAPIT to generate a Building Regulations compliance certificate.
