Landlords must have an EICR completed at least every five years or at the start of each new tenancy. The inspection checks whether the wiring and protective devices are safe for continued use and identifies any non-compliant issues.
What is the difference between a fuse board and a consumer unit?
A traditional fuse board contains rewireable fuses that blow when an overload happens. A modern consumer unit uses miniature circuit breakers and residual current devices that trip automatically when an electrical fault occurs, providing much higher protection against electric shock and fire.
Can an EV charger be added to an older electrical installation?
Yes, but the existing earthing, bonding and total electrical load must be checked first. If the current consumer unit has no spare capacity or lacks suitable residual current protection, an upgrade or a separate dedicated distribution board may be required.
What certificate should I receive after electrical work is carried out?
